Cultivating the Garden: Join Our Summer Horticulture Series!
Sioux City, IA – Get ready to dig into the joys of gardening with the exciting Summer Horticulture Series hosted by ISU Extension and Outreach – Woodbury County! This hands-on program will take place in the beautiful Marilyn Engle Teaching Garden, offering participants a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and cultivate their gardening skills.
Kicking off on May 15th, each class will be led by Lindsay Meylor, Horticulture Coordinator, providing expert guidance and interactive experiences for beginners eager to explore the world of gardening. The series includes the following sessions:

  • May 15: Precision Watering: DIY Drip Irrigation Master efficient watering with a custom drip irrigation system. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to design, install, and maintain your own setup, saving water and ensuring your plants thrive.
  • May 22: Thyme to Grow: An Herb Gardening Experience Learn to grow, care for, and harvest a variety of herbs for your garden and kitchen. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned gardener, you’ll leave with the skills and herb seedlings to start growing fresh, flavorful herbs at home.
  • June 12: Beyond the Ground: Elevate Your Garden with Trellising Elevate your garden by learning to create and install trellises that maximize space, improve plant health, and add beauty. Whether for climbing vegetables or decorative vines, you’ll gain skills to take your garden to the next level!
  • June 19: Pots of Plenty: Growing Fresh Vegetables Anywhere Learn container gardening techniques to grow fresh vegetables in any space, from balconies to backyards. Create and take home your own vegetable plant in an ISU Extension and Outreach bucket!
  • July 17: Sowing Success: The Science Behind Succession Gardening Unlock the secrets of gardening all season long. In this workshop, you’ll explore the technique and science behind succession planting to maximize your harvests. Learn how to plan, rotate, and plant crops effectively, ensuring a continuous supply of fresh produce throughout the season.
Participants can choose to attend individual sessions for $30 each or register for all five classes for a special rate of $130. Each session begins at 5:30 p.m., making it easy to fit into your evening schedule.
