Letters to Santa Mailbox is Coming Downtown

Sioux City, Iowa (October 24, 2025) - Downtown Partners Sioux City is excited to announce a new holiday tradition, Letters to Santa. Beginning Friday, November 1, children across Siouxland are invited to drop off their letters to Santa in a special red mailbox located inside the Art SUX Gallery at 515 4th Street in Downtown Sioux City.

The custom-built mailbox is the result of a unique local collaboration. Students from the Sioux City Career Academy’s Welding Program at the Harry Hopkins campus are using their skills to bring holiday magic to life this season. Under the guidance of instructor Terry Gardner, students have designed and fabricated a custom mailbox using metal generously donated by State Steel. This project celebrates the creativity and craftsmanship of local students while bringing a touch of holiday spirit to the heart of downtown. The mailbox will remain in place throughout the holiday season.

“Each year, we look for meaningful ways to connect the community during the holidays,” said Ragen Cote, Executive Director of Downtown Partners Sioux City. “This partnership highlights our local talent and provides families with a new holiday tradition right here in downtown.”

The Art SUX Foundation for Kids will be hosting two events for children to write their letters, sip on hot chocolate, decorate cookies and visit with Santa on November 8 and December 6 from 10am - 12pm. For more information and to register, visit Art SUX for Kids on social media.

The Letters to Santa initiative is part of Downtown for the Holidays, a citywide celebration featuring the IBEW Downtown Holiday Lighted Parade, Small Business Saturday, the 12 Days of Giveaways, and the Holiday Storefront Decorating Competition.
