Bishop to preside at White Mass

Bishop Nickless to preside at White Mass to honor health care professionals

Bishop Walker Nickless and Sioux City Cathedral Parish are hosting the third annual White Mass Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Epiphany to honor and pray for health care workers.

Father David Esquiliano, rector of the Cathedral, explained the name White Mass refers to the white lab coats traditionally worn by those working in the health care industry.

“All can appreciate the critical work of healing offered by those working in the health care field. Especially following the difficult years when the COVID-19 pandemic was at its height, those providers were at the front lines, even putting themselves in harm’s way to care for the sick,” the rector said of praying for the health care workers at the Mass.

A meal will be provided to attendees in the Cathedral Hall after the Mass. Those working in the health care field and their families are encouraged to attend, regardless of faith background.

Bishop Nickless will also preside at a Nov. 7 Red Mass at the Cathedral at 5:30 p.m. for those working in the legal profession.
