Early Learning Center at the YMCA Opening January 16, 2023

The Y’s child care is staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids, the support parents and families need, and the importance of maintaining a safe, clean environment for children to learn and thrive. At the Y, infants and toddlers develop trust and security.

Following state and local safety guidelines, The Siouxland Y offers quality full-day and partial-day early learning opportunities and child care for infants through preschoolers, enabling parents and family members to go to work knowing their children are in safe, stimulating environments.

Infants

6 Weeks to Mobile

Learning to Explore Their World

Teachers strive to attain balance and harmony with your infant’s home schedule. This means that we work with families to establish the right eating and sleeping routines for your child.

Infants learn through active, hands-on play. Grabbing plastic rings, rolling on a soft blanket, making a toy squeak - what fun! Our infant classrooms are split between non-mobile and mobile infants (young toddlers) with the safety and development of each child in mind and allow crawlers to move around freely in a safe space and reach and explore objects - a key to early development and learning.

Families are asked to provide formula and infant food, diapers/pull-ups, wipes, an extra set of clothes, bottles, a pacifier, and diaper ointment. The Y will provide morning and afternoon snacks.

Babies feel safe, secure, and happy in our infant classrooms. We believe high-quality childcare is a partnership. Together, we’ll give your child the best start possible. Infant classrooms maintain a ratio of 1 adult:4 infant.

Toddler

Mobile - 3 Years

Gaining Independence & Confidence

In YMCA Preschool, toddlers watch and absorb knowledge and skills from everything and everyone around them. Most importantly, children learn how to be their best selves.

Our toddler programs are centered around each child’s daily schedule. Children in these programs will continue to develop their gross and fine motor skills. Daily activities include cooperative playtime, art, outside excursions, naps and an abundance of hugs from the staff. Toddlers will also hear many stories and songs that foster their language development.

You and your child’s lead teacher meet annually to discuss your child’s development and the milestones observed and documented in your child’s developmental portfolio.
