Maintenance Technician with HVAC Experience
Mater Dei Parish has a full-time opening for a Maintenance Technician with an HVAC Emphasis.
Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the parish’s churches, facilities, and schools to ensure the buildings are comfortable, safe, and welcoming for staff, students, and parishioners. This entails preventative maintenance and repairs of the general buildings, grounds, and equipment; plus HVAC troubleshooting; ability to work calmly and maintain a friendly presence during high-pressure moments; keep accurate maintenance logs, order parts, and manage vendor relationships when specialized work is required.*
Requirements:
- Proven hands-on HVAC troubleshooting and repair experience (demonstrable examples or certifications; able to diagnose and fix A/C issues under time pressure).
- Demonstrated facility maintenance competency across plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, and building systems (e.g., repair toilets, replace light fixtures/bulbs, perform basic wiring tasks, and maintain exterior systems).
- Proven resourcefulness and independent problem-solving—able to research, learn, and complete unfamiliar repairs without ongoing supervision.
- Respond promptly to requests, including events, safety and security, and emergency maintenance (e.g., A/C failure during services, major leaks, power issues) independently, and provide clear, calm communication to priests, staff and parishioners while resolving the issue.
- Collaborate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or scheduled servicing; coordinate access, scope, and quality checks for outsourced work.
Preference is given to a practicing Roman Catholic.
Benefits: Standard benefits include paid time off (PTO); health, dental, and vision insurance; plus tuition assistance for Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools.
