IT Technician (Focus Area is Network Operations)

Wayne State College is seeking an IT Technician (Network Operations).

Work in a collaborative environment with a team of IT professionals, contributing your experience and expertise to accomplish the strategic IT goals of Wayne State College. Performs a variety of professional duties in support of the day-to-day operations of the Network and Technology Services (NATS) department. Provides tier 2 troubleshooting of related technologies for incidents not resolved during first point of contact at the tier 1 Service Center. Assists Network Operations team members with daily operational activities supporting existing technical services provided to the campus community. Focus will include activities within, but not limited to, the campus id card system, residence life room management system, identity access management system, campus phone system, campus data reporting system, network infrastructure IDF management, software packaging and distribution, and inventory management.

Examples of Work Performed: 

  1. Repair and maintain IDF battery backup units.
  2. Assist with network infrastructure data cable installation and maintenance as needed.
  3. Maintain equipment inventory for IT hardware.
  4. Assist with campus id card system activities including card reader reprogramming, programming of head end equipment, electronic id photos submittal approval process, and manual id card creation as needed.
  5. Assist with residence life room management system documented processes for term rollovers.
  6. Assist with software packaging and distribution.
  7. Assist with the identity access management system group membership updates as requested.
  8. Assist with campus phone system phone configurations and monthly phone bill process(es).
  9. Maintain IT Department vehicle monthly mileage records and coordinate vehicle repairs.
  10. Assist monthly with executing existing campus data reports.
  11. Collaborate with supervisor, CIO, and NATS team members to coordinate and document primary and secondary responsibilities for software, hardware, process, activity, or other support requirements necessary to maintain availability of services to the campus community according to the IT Business Continuity plan.
  12. Mentor NATS student workers for completion of lower-level tasks that are repeatable, documented, and auditable.
  13. Collaborate with Client Services team, Service Center, and campus stakeholders to improve incident, problem, and request management processes.
  14. Provide training and support to WSC faculty and staff as needed.
  15. Engage IT leadership to communicate status and manage priorities regarding work assignments.
  16. Participate in change control processes and meetings.
  17. Other duties as assigned that are pertinent to the goals and mission of the IT department and the college.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree in related field or two year’s related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
