SUMMARY:
ENTRY SALARY: $27.44/hour (Plus Benefits) Work Setting: Virtual (12-15 hours per week)
Responsible and accountable as the competent professional authority for determination of Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program eligibility and certification based on nutritional risk. Provide nutrition assessment, education, referral, and care coordination services, focused on those activities that can be completed in the virtual format. Provide nutrition services to other SDHD public health programming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Function as the competent professional authority for determination of WIC program eligibility and certification following assessment of individual anthropometric, biochemical and dietary data.
Tailor the WIC food package to best meet individual dietary needs of the participant.
Coordinate, develop and assure nutrition education to all participants, both on an individual and group basis, while monitoring all materials used in the education program.
Provide nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support that is responsive to the participant’s needs and interests Note: High risk participants must be scheduled for at least one individual education contact by a licensed dietitian. If the initial contact was provided by a licensed dietitian, then the second contact can be provided by any CPA or a licensed dietitian as determined by the licensed dietitian that certified the participant. If the initial contact was provided by a non-Licensed Dietitian CPA, then the second contact must be provided by a licensed dietitian.
Provide in-depth individual nutrition counseling and care plans as needed or requested by a participant.
Promote and provide support to breastfeeding families and breastfeeding efforts.
Provide referral of WIC participants to other sources of health care, as needed, including accurate documentation and follow-up of referrals.
Maintain adequate and accurate participant records according to established policies and procedures.
Ensure participant records are kept secure and confidential.
Maintain daily statistics to assist in time studies, program and agency statistics.
Provide program outreach information to agency staff, interested professionals, outside agencies, organizations and individuals.
Provide nutrition services to the Child Adolescent Health Program, Lead Program and other public health programming.
Develop needed program tools and plans and assist WIC Coordinator in development of the Nutrition Education Needs Assessment, Community Health Needs Assessment and the nutrition section of the local WIC grant application.
Assume personal responsibility to keep informed of current changes and trends affecting nutritional needs/care and maintain competencies and skills.
Provide professional nutrition related information and education to agency staff, interested professionals, outside agencies, organizations and individuals.
Participate in activities that support the planning and development of programs through work with other agencies to improve and/or expand services available to the public. Report cases of suspected abuse or neglect of children and adults to the proper authorities in accordance with department policy and state law.Agency Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with the quality improvement process within the agency.
Ensure compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) covering the security and privacy of confidential client data.
Ensure participant records and communication with participants, co-workers and other health professionals are in accordance with Confidentiality Policy.
Attend and participate in work-related meetings, conferences/seminars and committees.
Assist in agency/division planning and response to disaster situations and emergency situations or events in conjunction with agency emergency plan.
Provide customer service that is courteous and responsive.
Demonstrate professional oral, phone and written communication skills.
Model professional behavior to peers and participants.
Perform other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITY
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, food systems management or closely related field.
Current licensure as a Licensed Dietitian in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Dietetic examiners or able to obtain license within 6 months of employment.
Current dietetic registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or eligible for registration within 6 months of employment.
Minimum of 1 year experience in general dietetics is desired with experience in maternal/child nutrition preferred.
Home based Internet Connection
Mandatory Child and Adult Abuse Reporter Training required or shall obtain training within the first six months of employment and every three years thereafter.
CPR Certification required or be willing to attend training.
Must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and ability to obtain car insurance at agency-specified liability level.
