Clerk II (County Attorney)

Under supervision, performs intermediate clerical work encompassing a variety of office related tasks; does related work as required. Performs routine and repetitive clerical tasks which can be readily learned such as filing, proofreading, inputting data, processing mail, completing standard letters and forms, and typing dictated or otherwise drafted correspondence.  Interacts with members of the public both in person and/or over the telephone to explain basic departmental policies and procedures or determines the proper person to whom to refer them for assistance. This position is under direct authority of County Attorney and/or Office Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Other duties may be required and assigned. 
Answers phone inquiries within scope of responsibility and refers inquiries to proper resource when necessary
Learn, apply, and articulate departmental policies and procedures
Collect data, keep accurate records and prepare reports.
Represent Woodbury County and perform duties in a professional, responsible and trustworthy manner
Operate common office equipment such as typewriters, calculators, fax, photocopiers, multi-line telephones, and scanners
Use a computer for the purposes of basic data entry, word processing, e-filing, email and the Internet
Make routine bookkeeping entries and complete business forms
Sort and file a variety of materials with accuracy following a designated system

Provide customer service that is courteous and responsive
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, department heads, co-workers, and members of the public
Type from dictation and/or otherwise drafted correspondence
Maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate
Handle low to moderate levels of stress, meet deadlines and solve problems appropriate to the position
Assures that all assignments are completed in a thorough and accurate manner

Performs ordering and maintenance of office supplies
Performs related tasks/assignments/special projects as assigned
Attendance is required

Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Assists with the accurate and effective accomplishment of a variety of tasks/assignments/ reports/ special projects and other duties as assigned by the County Attorney and/or Office Manager

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITY

Minimum Education and Experience Required to Perform Essential Functions: 

 High school diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED).
 Specific knowledge of a body of rules or operations for a particular functional area or areas such as might be acquired in One (1) to three (3) years of prior related  experience
 Computer skills (including computer using Word and Excel)
 Ability to learn 
 Good recordkeeping skills
 Ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with others 
 Keyboarding skill test from Iowa Workforce Development or Woodbury County Human Resources with 40 words per minute (net score), within the last 12 months
 Candidate for hire must successfully pass a background check, a physical examination, vision, back screen and drug screen prior to employment

Mental and Physical Competencies Required to Perform Essential Functions:

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and/or Iowa or County systems.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the County in clearly spoken English.   Ability to communicate Woodbury County policies to managerial and non-managerial groups in person and in writing. Able by voice communications to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word in clearly spoken English.                         

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSES

Woodbury County application and typing test is required.
