Systems Technician
Overview
The Systems Technician position applies knowledge of electronic principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. The Systems Technician is responsible for proper installation, service, and replacement of all electronic equipment, circuit modules, programmable logic controllers, and several other types of electronic equipment. The Systems Technician maintains and installs communication and power distribution cable and wiring, as required. This position works with maintenance employees in the assembly and disassembly of equipment, as needed. Work on tests and pilot runs for new and improved products and processes as well as fix designs by working with engineers. Participate in Research and Development’s (R&D) involvement in initial production, plant troubleshooting, and continuous improvement projects.
Responsibilities
- Install, test, maintain, diagnose, and troubleshoot multiple types of PLC and motion control systems.
- Maintain, install, and troubleshoot industrial electronic equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, communication cables, power distribution cables, and wiring, as required. Report to and communicate with Systems Engineering management on projects or problems related to maintenance of plant.
- Assemble and disassemble equipment effectively and efficiently while maintaining and establishing high maintenance standards. Ensure all procedures are carefully followed.
- Assist, as directed, in production start-up and shut-down activities as well as R&D testing activities; may include wiring, unwiring, and troubleshooting equipment and systems.
- Respond and provide corrective action to alarms or out of parameter readings. Activities may include reviewing control logic, checking set points, and testing electrical wiring.
- Accurately maintain company required performance and maintenance records for electronic and electrical equipment.
- Monitor usage of various systems, such as chemical tanks and boiler systems. Repair of lights, replacing bulbs and lines as needed.
- Ensure all systems engineering tasks are performed and completed in a timely manner. Must take responsibility for all actions. Perform required preventative maintenance tasks such as checking or changing filters, testing water tanks, verifying scale weight accuracy, checking print and apply label systems, etc.
- Provide a quick response to equipment problems to keep vital machinery operational. Provide a proactive response to uncompleted projects or potential issues or hazards observed. Constantly observe plant conditions to ensure plant production runs efficiently.
- Install, test, maintain, and troubleshoot computer systems, servers, network equipment, industrial LAN’s, security systems, and video surveillance systems.

Qualifications
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read blueprints, schematic diagrams, and electrical code.
- General computer knowledge and proficiency.
Demonstrated Competencies
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, in both written and verbal form.
- Strong analytical and evaluating skills to troubleshoot various precision equipment.
- Must have regular and punctual attendance.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing, twisting, reaching, bending, and lifting.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 60lbs.
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including weekends.
Experience: 1 year or more of related electrical work experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent, or verifiable ability to perform essential job functions. 2-year vocational school in electrical mechanical related field or equivalent is preferred.
