Conservation Habitat Stewardship Intern
SALARY: $12.00 - $12.00 Hourly

The Habitat Stewardship Intern will work no more than 40 hours per work week (non-routine including some weekends, evenings and holidays).

This 12-week position will run approximately May 30 through August 14, 2021 and will offer opportunities to actively participate in land stewardship and habitat management activities in prairie and woodland environments.  
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
The following duties are typical for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  
Other duties may be required and assigned.

Assist the staff naturalists with conducting habitat management such as invasive species removal, Scrub removal, oak savanna and prairie restoration and prairie planting
Conduct mowing, trimming, and general park maintenance tasks
Assist with weeding, mulching, tree trimming, and native landscaping projects
Assist with trail maintenance and equipment maintenance
Assist with fence construction, repair and removal
Maintain working relationships with other employees and the public
Perform related tasks as assigned
Attendance is required. 

Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Provides assistance with a variety of duties within scope of responsibility assigned by County Conservation Naturalist. 

Minimum Education and Experience Required to Perform Essential Functions: 

High School diploma or GED equivalent
Must possess a current, valid driver's license and insurance
Ability to get to and from the work-site 45-mile radius of Sioux City
Ability to to routinely lift up to 50 pounds
Physically able to work in extreme environmentally rigorous situations (heat, humidity, steep terrain)
Candidate must pass physical and drug screening and background checks tests prior to employment for Woodbury County.

Physical Demands
Typical office environment involving sitting, walking, occasional bending, lifting, and carrying paper and related light objects generally weighing (50-85) pounds  or less and negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.  Horizontal and vertical reaching motion is required.  Aptitudes required are those typically associated with clerical operations including clerical, numerical, and forms perceptions, clarity of vision to view computer screens and for preparing and analyzing written data and to determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surrounds and activities, legal documents, and property descriptions cards; eye/hand/foot coordination, hand and finger dexterity, motor coordination, grasping and repetitive motions,  hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and conversation skills for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word in clearly spoken English. Attendance required
