Purpose of Position:
The Academic Advisor provides direct, student-centered support to help learners navigate academic planning, course selection, degree progress, and college success strategies. This entry-level position plays a key role in fostering a welcoming, culturally responsive advising environment aligned with the mission of Little Priest Tribal College. The Academic Advisor works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and student-support offices to ensure students receive timely, accurate, and holistic guidance throughout their academic journey.
Job Responsibilities:
- Student Advising — Provide one-on-one academic advising to new and continuing students, including course planning, degree requirements, and transfer pathways.
- Academic Planning — Assist students in developing individualized academic plans that support timely graduation and align with career or transfer goals.
- Registration Support — Guide students through registration, add/drop processes, and schedule adjustments.
- Record Accuracy — Maintain accurate advising notes and ensure documentation aligns with institutional policies.
- Campus Collaboration — Work closely with faculty, Admissions, Student Records, Financial Aid, and Student Support Services to coordinate holistic student support.
- Orientation Participation — Assist with new student orientation, advising workshops, and outreach events.
- Resource Referral — Connect students with tutoring, counseling, financial aid, and other support services as needed.
- Cultural Responsiveness — Support the college’s mission by fostering an advising environment that honors Native identity, community values, and student diversity.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds, including first-generation and non-traditional learners.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to FERPA guidelines.
- Proficiency with basic office software and willingness to learn student information systems.
- Experience working in higher education, student services, or a related field.
- Familiarity with tribal colleges, Native communities, or culturally responsive advising practices.
- Knowledge of academic planning, degree audits, and student success strategies.
Condition of Employment:
- This is a 100% on-site position.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background screen.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under our insurance.
