GENERAL SUMMARY:
 
The Personal Banker position is required to understand the features and benefits of all credit union products and services to better inform and cross-sell based on member needs. The Personal Banker conducts deposits, withdrawals, and transfers on member accounts and must show sound skills to reconcile daily transaction activity as well as open new accounts and perform other duties.  The Personal Banker must be organized and efficient to complete many transactions daily and keep files up to date and in order.  This person is expected to be friendly, helpful, and possess knowledge of the credit union, its philosophy, by-laws, and operational procedures. Overall purpose of this position is to provide accurate, informed, and friendly service to members in all capacities. 
 
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Open new member accounts and conduct loan interviews and closings within parameters set by the Board of Directors
  2. Professionally welcome members, determine nature of member’s business, process their transaction, provide policy information, and cross-sell credit union products and services
  3. Process member transactions such as receiving and disbursing all funds by cash, check, traveler’s check, wire transfer, VISA cash advance, and money order whether in person, by mail, or telephone
  4. Answer general questions, handle minor complaints, do basic member account research, and refer to the proper department for solution
  5. Receive and verify sufficient cash from Teller Supervisor to handle daily cash disbursements
  6. Balance cash receipts and prepare daily cash summary
  7. Be able to travel to different SFCU branches in need of Personal Banker/Teller personnel
 
SECONDARY DUTIES:
  1. Maintain legible and accurate transaction records and balance individual cash drawer daily.
  2. Answer member account status inquiries in person and over the phone.
  3. Complete general typing, filing, computer input, and other duties as assigned.
  4. Alternate hours to be available in rotation for maintenance of Saturday hours 9:00am to 12:00pm and Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.  Rotation schedules are posted.
 
Abilities, Characteristics, Knowledge, and Skills required:
  1. College degree desired.  High School education may be acceptable depending on experience.
  2. Prefer six months experience as a teller, cashier or related field, with proven Personal Banker duties or exposure, i.e. consumer loan and new account experience.
  3. Sales experience helpful.
  4. Sound PC skills and good basic skills at reading, writing, and arithmetic.
  5. History of pleasant, enthusiastic personality and a mature disposition are required.
